Week 4 (w/e 29 January)
Miles: 107.1
A cold, chilly start to the week. I did 17 miles on Monday. Tuesday was affected throughout by wintry showers so I wasn't able to add to the total. The fine, cold conditions returned on Wednesday so I took myself out in the afternoon, earlier than usual, and did a 23 miler. Rain turned up at 9:30 in the evening, so that was that for the day. Thursday was washed out again and Friday began in the same vein. Fortunately the rain had passed over by teatime so I was able to dash out at 6 for half an hour, advancing to 48 miles. I did another 30 minutes worth later in the evening, with the result that I headed into the weekend on 56 miles.
The weather was dry on Saturday, so two short rides in the afternoon saw me to 76 miles... then it was time for the pub. And so to Sunday. I woke up with a hangover and didn't feel in any great hurry to get out there and chase down those 24 miles. So it was 5 pm before I made a start. By 'eck, it was cold. I returned home with 98 miles. You might have thought that I would have stayed out for another 10 minutes, just to mop up the remaining 2 miles to get the ton. Normally I would have done, but my energy levels had sagged quite seriously and I felt in need of a hot cup of coffee and a couple of biscuits. I eventually resumed the chase at 9:30 that evening, rolling home with 107 miles for the week.
Not bad at all considering that two full days were lost to rain.
The stats:
Time taken to get 100: 6 hr 32 m.
Total for 2012: 362.4
2012 average weekly mileage: 90.6
Consecutive 100s: 3
Miles needed for 6000: 5637.6
Percentage of target reached: 6.04%
With 48 weeks to go, average weekly miles needed for 6000: 117.45
Faster time for the 100 this week due to the still conditions.
With an aggregate score of 362 miles after four weeks, 2012 has surprisingly become my most successful start since records began. Blimey! Previous bests were:
2009 - 237.8
1998 - 228.5
1999 - 227.7
2011 & 2008 - 227.3
2007 - 210.7
