Week 3 (w/e 22 January)
Miles: 103.1
The dry January weather helped me post another ton! Unprecedented pedalling here.
The cold snap from the previous weekend continued until mid-week, after which it turned blustery and wet. I actually took Monday off and didn't get the bike out. Tsk. I made up for this by cycling 24 miles on Tuesday and moving on to 47 miles by Wednesday evening. Thursday afternoon was rained off for me, but I managed to dash out in the evening and haul myself to 55 miles despite the howling gale. Unfortunately Friday was rained off, so I went into the weekend needing 45 miles to achieve my target. I don't like leaving myself with too much to do at the weekend because it makes you a hostage to fortune... or the weather at least. A showery Saturday afternoon didn't look too clever, but the rain had blown over by mid-afternoon so eventually I closed the day on 80 miles, having nipped out for 3 short trips. That just left Sunday for me to mop up the remainder, which was comfortably achieved by a quick spin in the late afternoon (despite drizzle) and a slightly longer trundle at 9 pm.
The stats:
Time taken to get 100: 6 hr 44 m.
Total for 2012: 255.3
2012 average weekly mileage: 85.1
Consecutive 100s in current run: 2
Miles needed for 6000: 5744.7
Percentage of target reached: 4.25%
With 49 weeks to go, average weekly miles needed for 6000: 117.23
The trying conditions caused by the gale blowing in off the Irish Sea would account for the slower "wheel time" 100 total.
