2012 Week 48
Week 48 w/e 2 December 2012)

This week a cold snap descended over the country, making things a little more tricky. Sensibly, I avoided the untreated country lanes and stuck to the salted main roads instead. Although I had to contend with a little more traffic, at least I felt fairly secure that I wouldn't be hitting a patch of black ice on my travels. It was still a struggle to get out there and chalk up the miles though, as the temperature was hovering around zero in the evenings for much of the week.
This week's ton took me past 1997's total of 6066.5 miles which means 2012 moves into second place in the all-time table of achievement.

2012 Week 47

And so I made it to my 6000 mile target, with 5 weeks to spare.
It wasn't quite as easy as that though. Having sprinted to 75 miles by Wednesday evening, the rest of the week turned into a bit of a stagger to the line thanks mainly to bad weather. Thursday was completely washed out. I had things to do on Friday afternoon so couldn't get out for the usual hour, contenting myself with a 30 minute ride in the evening that took me to 83 miles. A ride into town and back on Saturday afternoon took me to 93 miles but then wintry drizzle rolled in. I'd made plans to go out to the pub that night anyway. That just left Sunday to mop up the remainder and thankfully it was clear and fine.

By Thursday night I'd got 86 miles in the bag. The following afternoon I went down to Manchester for the night. When I got home on Saturday teatime it was raining. Sunday afternoon was clear, so I polished off the 100 in one ride and pushed on to 112 later that evening.

A weekend trip to Halifax meant that I still required 13 miles when I got home on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately the weather was good, so I got the 100 sorted with two short rides.
